Brunei Wins Gold, Silver At Asean Skills
By Azaraimy HH &James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - DK Yani Mariana Pg Yahya made Brunei Darussalam proud by winning the gold medal in Cookery event at the 6th Asean Skills Competition (ASC), while her co-contestant Dyg Sharmita bte Junyang won the silver medal.

This was the second gold medal won by Brunei in Asean Skills Competition, the last gold medal also coming in the same category during the country's first ever participation in ASC in Bangkok, March 2001.

This Year's results are Brunei's best ever.

Dk Yani Mariana Pg Yahya, a former student of Sultan Saiful Rizal Technical College (MTSSR), is currently working with the Royal Brunei Catering.

In a brief interview after receiving the medal at the 6th ASC closing ceremony at The Rizqun International Hotel last night, Dk Yani Mariana said she wasn't that confident in winning the gold but had delivered her very best.

She thanked her two instructors, Mr Navin and Cikgu Fatimah Mahadi, for teaching her the necessary skills in cookery. She also thanked the Royal Brunei Catering for encouraging her to participate at the last National Skill Competition, which she won and got selected to represent the country at the 6th ASC.

She hoped her journey would not end here. "Well they have promised that if I won the ASC they would send me to compete at the next stage, at the World Skills Competition," she said. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
